Beautiful Naked Russian Girls Still Improve Magazine Sales

Successfully fighting the severe media recession, a popular magazine uses its glossy pages as God intended: to print photos of stunning naked Russian go-go dancers.

Afisha, a popular Moscow events and listings magazine, found if not innovative then effective way to combat the decline in revenues, experienced by most Russian publishers. The solution: print what people want. And what do people want amid a flow of gloomy economic and political news? Photos of beautiful (and naked) blond go-go dancers from the busiest Moscow night clubs. And, of course, the photos must be accompanied by interviews where girls confirm that (just as we expected) they are also getting their degrees in economics, don't have sex with clients and want to find a good husband soon.

Our friends at the Afisha publishing house confirm that the "Striptease" issue is likely to become one of the most popular issues this year.

Yes, we know, it's not really "news"; we just wanted to brag a little and give a small hint to our editor.

So, meet some of the girls:

A Viral Marketing Thing We Feel Dirty About Spreading

 by Andrew Biliter
There’s nothing like a well-made fake. And conspiracy theory blog MIR-12 is nothing like a well-made fake. Granted, the production values for the site, part of the viral campaign for an upcoming video game called Singularity, are very high. But that’s just the problem. If real conspiracy theorists had made it, the homepage logo wouldn’t be nearly as slick, nor would the conspiracy, which involves a Chernobyl-type accident at a top-secret Russian weapons facility, be so involved. Then again, the fact that we’re sitting here writing about the stupid thing probably means the advertisers are getting exactly the response they want.

What Do the KGB and Margaret Thatcher Have in Common?

Didn’t want to let this one go without a raised eyebrow. A feature appeared in Sunday's New York Times about oligarch Alexander Lebedev and his plans to purchase British tabloid The Evening Standard. Nothing particularly strange or funny about that, but the editors did their best to make the piece utterly baffling. To start with, there’s the picture.

Moscow's Mayor Sues The New York Times and Wins

 by Russia! Staff
This Friday, Moscow District Court issued a judgement against The New York Times for defamation of the Moscow Mayor. Kommersant, a Russian business daily newspaper, reports that Moscow Mayor Yury Luzhkov filed a lawsuit against the Times and its reporter Clifford Levy for statements which "are false and give the mayor the negative image."
